TOP QUESTIONS WE HEAR FROM PATIENTS RELATING TO CATARACT SURGERY

Can cataract come back after surgery?

It is not possible for cataracts to regrow; however, it is common that a cloudy film forms behind the IOL on the lens capsule membrane. This clouding of the capsule is called posterior capsular opacification and is easily treated in the office.

 

How is secondary cataract treated?

It is removed by a simple in office treatment called YAG laser capsulotomy.

 

What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a common type of refractive error. It means that your cornea is more curved than it should be. This altered eye shape makes your vision blurry.The corrects astigmatism.

 

How would I know if I have astigmatism?

Your eye specialist will diagnose the degree of astigmatism through comprehensive eye examination which may include IOL master, Topography, Keratometry, slit lamp exam etc.

Are the lenses covered by MSP?

Only the Non-Toric single focal IOL is covered by MSP.

 

What should I expect after the procedure?

Vision often decreases in the hours after cataract surgery and by evening the vision can be very hazy with significant haloes. Vision begins to improve in the next few days, the pupil may remain dilated for several days. It may take up to six months for the brain to get accustomed to the new lens. It's normal to feel itching and mild discomfort for a couple of days after surgery. Avoid rubbing or applying pressure on your eyes.
